GWPD’s Gwinnett Safe Communities

Gwinnett Safe Communities is a collaborative effort of the Gwinnett County Police Department and registered partners, such as residents, businesses, schools, and churches, to provide support and increased security in the community. The program leverages sharing data from technologies that the community already uses to assist GCPD, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services. and county agencies. Common technologies the program uses are cameras and license plate readers to help these agencies respond to emergencies more efficiently and safely.

Your privacy is a top priority of Gwinnett Safe Communities:
Access to your camera only allows agencies to know a camera is present at your location
so they can request video footage should an incident happen where you are.

Considering Gwinnett County is the second largest county in Georgia, the number of commercial business, residential and other organization security cameras and other devices in use makes this collaboration significant and impactful in the county’s livability and safety.

Gwinnett Safe Communities and Fusus

Gwinnett Safe Communities is uses Fusus, which is a real-time operations platform designed to increase public safety and law enforcement efficiency. The Fusus system integrates various sources of data (cameras, license plate readers, and other tools such as body cameras and drones) to improve response time and operational effectiveness. Fusus is a Georgia-based tech company that facilitates collaboration between communities and public safety agencies to create greater safety and security.

By becoming a part of this public safety effort, you contribute to elevating the level of emergency services of police, firefighters and other public safety agencies for your community. Emergency service professionals have better access to information and are better able to respond in an emergency or when crime occurs. They can also use the data to initiate crime prevention efforts should trends begin. Additionally, investigators have potentially greater access to evidence when incidents happen.

How it works

After an incident is reported, Gwinnett Police receives real-time data from registered devices near the incident location. The data gathered informs first responders in real time. This gives emergency service responders a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of the incident, surroundings, and any potential risks. They are able to plan and strategize their response, as well as manage any identified threats.

Gwinnett Safe Communities and Your Privacy

The Gwinnett Safe Communities program’s mission is to increase your safety while maintaining your privacy. Registered cameras are not monitored and integrating your camera is only upon your request and approval. The GWPD is not allowed to access your live video feed and only accesses your camera data in the instance that an emergency occurs in your location. Access to your camera only allows agencies to know a camera is present at your location so they can request video footage should an incident happen where you are.

Ensuring your privacy

Public safety agencies depend on neighborhoods to mitigate and investigate crimes and be better equipped as first responders on the scene of critical incidents. The Axon Fusus system serves to increase community security while maintaining personal privacy.

Gwinnett Safe Communities and Cost

Registering your camera is free of charge and integration cost varies depending upon the number of cameras you integrate, plus an annual subscription. Integrating your camera requires a FususCORE device that you plug into your camera system. You’re able to choose and set your preferences.

Although integrating your camera is an investment, it’s also a commitment to a safer Gwinnett County. Setting up your camera and sharing your feed in an emergency situation or when a crime has been committed helps keep the community and emergency services safer while providing vital information for response and resolution.

Gwinnett Community Camera Registry Goals
